Running other series
The Reserve series is the default, and most people never need anything else. But the node is not tied to it. If you want different rules, you can publish your own series and run it on the same software.
What you can choose
- The number of mints, the units in each, and how many mints share a pool.
- The hash, from five, and how strong entries and layers must be.
- The key algorithms, from eleven, including post-quantum ML-DSA and SLH-DSA, and the address types.
- The witness ceiling, and whether a named issuer signs the series.
- A fixed supply, or a variable one, where the issuer releases more mints later in order, up to an optional limit.
Whatever you choose is fixed inside your series' id. Nodes that follow your series hold it to exactly those rules, and the same consensus rules apply to every series.
Try it
poo series new -mints 1024 -supply 1000000 -pool-size 16 > my-series.json
poo series info my-series.json
poo init -series my-series.json -reserve # follow it beside the default
poo node
To sign a series as its issuer, use poo series sign. Your node, and anyone who wants to use your series, must choose to follow it:
a node follows only what its owner asks for.
Things to weigh
- A new series starts with no work behind it and no other nodes. Its strength comes from the people who choose to follow and work on it.
- The project's node and this site follow the default series. Your series appears in the network lists only if that node chooses to follow it.
- Every value is permanent. Pick key algorithms and limits you are happy to keep for ever.
- Tools refuse a series with no witness ceiling or a very large one unless you force it, because it raises the cost of checking every witness.
